I came across a very interesting article that caught my attention about dogs eating grass and reasons why they might do this. My dog eats grass every now and then and I kind of don't like it because I know he's most likely going to vomit afterward! Ewwww! Well apparently this is one of the reasons they eat grass. They do it because they may have an upset stomach, or they may do it just because they like the aroma, taste and the texture of grass. Dogs like greens in their diet, so if they only eat kibble, they will look for greens which have nutrients that are good for dogs. If their diet is high in protein they may have problems with digestion and grass stimulates digestion. It's a source of vitamin E which is an antioxidant that may prevent heart disease, cancer and stroke. Grass also contains niacin and B group vitamins that aid in metabolism, stimulates the nervous system, and preserves skin and fur health in dogs.
So, I'm glad I found this article since it helps me understand why Gino eats grass! The only thing is, if you have treated your grass with fertilizers or pesticides, this would be a big problem! But we don't. So if you do, don't let your dog chew or walk on the grass.
