Choosing a dog to bring home and commence a companionship that will last years is an important decision. It is a good idea to conduct online research into several different breeds of dog before deciding which one will fit into your lifestyle and/or that of your family.
Some dogs are known for being great family pets while others are better as companions to one person or a couple without children. Some dogs are high energy and need a lot of exercise while other dog breeds are content to lie about the house with their owners for company.
In the realm of small dogs that are some of the most popular types of dog breeds, there are many breeds that make wonderful companions. Typically, the smaller dogs are better in households with older children or as companion to a single person or a couple without children.
• Chihuahuas- This is a popular breed of small dog, known as the small dog with a big dog attitude. Chihuahuas are fiercely loyal to their owners. This trait makes them wonderful one person companions but makes them less than ideal for homes with children. That loyalty makes them very jealous at times.
• Shih Tzus- Even though this breed of dog is long haired, they are typically considered a hypoallergenic dog due to the fact that they do not shed much hair at all.
• Yorkshire Terriers- This small dog is a very loyal companion dog that, like the Chihuahua, is passionately loyal and jealous.
Larger dogs that are some of the most popular types of dog breeds are some of the following:
• Labrador Retrievers- These dogs are fantastic family pets. They absolutely love children of all sizes and are smart and easy to train. Labs are the perfect family dog.
• Beagles- This breed of dog is a hardy breed that is rarely sick or afflicted. Beagles are very gentle pets, making them quite suitable for homes with children. This dog is a good guard dog in that it will alert its owners to anything amiss with a loud, baying bark.
• German Shepherd- Known far and wide as ‘police dogs’ German Shepherd dogs are great pets but are happiest if they are working dogs. Guarding, service jobs, search and rescue and these types of dog jobs suit the highly intelligent German Shepherd dog best of all.
